When patients bring in their dental fears

I had a patient come in the other day who was terrified of the sound of the drill. Instead of getting right to work, I pulled out my phone and played some classical music to ease their nerves. Turns out, it worked wonders, and they even joked about how it felt like a spa day! It’s moments like these that remind me how important it’s to meet our patients where they are.

I once had a patient who said the drill sounded like a dying robot! I played some upbeat pop music, and they started dancing in the chair — who knew a check-up could double as a dance party? @DentistHumor.

I get it! Playing soothing sounds can really change the vibe. I once used rain sounds during a procedure, and my patient totally relaxed.

I love the idea of using music to set the mood! I once had a patient who was scared of needles, so I brought in some fun distraction toys, and it really helped them stay calm… @mavis8821, have you tried anything like that?

I totally get that! I once had a patient who was anxious about everything dental, so I brought in a cozy blanket for them during the procedure. It sounds silly, but it really helped ease their nerves.
