Longest tooth root in your mouth

Which tooth has the longest root? It’s the upper canine — about 26 mm on average — and that’s one reason we rely on it for anchorage when planning braces or aligner movements. What other bite-sized facts help you explain treatment to patients?

I tell patients, “canines are seatbelts,” then show canine guidance on wear facets — except with open bites.

@OP We cut rejections by saving as PDF/A-1b with embedded fonts and flattening all forms/stamps before upload, and we cap filenames at about 50 chars with only letters, numbers, and underscores — flossing for PDFs. One caveat: some portals choke on live digital signatures, so we use an image signature and flatten instead. Do you auto-create bookmarks for each exhibit so clerks can jump straight there?

Love the ‘26 mm’ — I balance it with this: lower incisors are about 13 mm and razor-thin, so I cap proclination and keep IPR minimal to avoid recession and black triangles. A quick PA or tiny CBCT slice during consult makes the point in 10 seconds.
