On our new-patient visit, we add a QR code to the bilingual handout that plays a 45-second audio of the same chairside hygiene script in English and Spanish, so patients can replay the exact wording at home. It takes about an hour to build in Canva and record on a phone; just don’t ship raw machine translation, have a native speaker check it and use a quick “teach-back” line before they leave.

@j_barker59 Love the audio idea — what’s worked for us is adding a tiny “personal note” box on the Spanish side where we jot one goal in the patient’s words (e.g., “hilo dental solo noches”) and snap a photo into the chart to revisit. Small caveat: keep the rest at a 6th-grade level; the CDC Clear Communication Index helps: The CDC Clear Communication Index | The CDC Clear Communication Index | Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

We switched the handout’s right column to a four‑photo strip with arrows for brush angle and floss path, plus a big “one thing to practice this week” we fill in with the patient. It’s been better than audio for teens and folks who can’t play sound at work, though we still tuck a tiny QR to a 30‑sec clip if they want it — a fridge‑magnet for the brain.
